Today marks the start of the journey towards Tibet. After breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to the border town of Kerung, Tibet. The drive takes about 6-7 hours, passing through beautiful landscapes and scenic roads that wind along the Trishuli River. Once we reach the Nepal-China border at Rasuwagadhi, we will go through immigration formalities before entering Tibet. Our Tibetan guide will meet us in Kerung, and we’ll check into our hotel for an overnight stay. Overnight in Kerung.
Today, we continue our journey by driving from Kerung to Saga. The drive takes approximately 8-9 hours, passing through the rugged Tibetan plateau with stunning views of the Himalayan range and expansive valleys. Along the way, we may stop at small Tibetan villages, where we can interact with locals and witness their daily lives. Upon arrival in Saga, we check into our hotel and prepare for the journey to Lake Mansarovar. Overnight in Saga.
Today is an exciting day as we drive towards the sacred Lake Mansarovar, one of the holiest lakes in Tibetan Buddhism. The drive takes approximately 7-8 hours, and as we get closer to the lake, the spiritual energy of the region becomes palpable. Mansarovar is believed to be the lake where Lord Shiva meditated. Upon reaching the lake, you’ll have time to explore the area and perform rituals, including a holy dip in the lake’s waters for purification. The views of Mount Kailash in the distance are awe-inspiring. Overnight at a guesthouse or tent near Lake Mansarovar.
This morning, after visiting the sacred Lake Mansarovar, we drive to Darchen, a small Tibetan town located at the base of Mount Kailash. The drive takes about 2-3 hours. Darchen is the starting point for the Kailash Kora (circumambulation) around Mount Kailash. After arriving in Darchen, you will have the rest of the day to rest and prepare for the upcoming challenging days of the Kora trek. Make sure all your gear is ready for the climb. Overnight in Darchen.
Today, we begin the Kailash Kora trek. We start by trekking towards Dirapuk, which takes about 6-7 hours. This day involves gradual ascents, offering beautiful views of Mount Kailash and the surrounding valleys. Dirapuk is located at 4,900 meters, and once we arrive, we can enjoy the mesmerizing views of Kailash’s north face. Many pilgrims also take part in Kailash Charan Sparsh (touching the feet of Mount Kailash), a deeply spiritual moment in the journey. Overnight at guesthouse in Dirapuk.
Today is one of the most challenging days of the Kora. We will cross the high-altitude Drolma La Pass, which sits at 5,636 meters. This pass is known for its challenging terrain and thin air, so it’s important to pace yourself. After the pass, we descend towards Zuthulpuk, where we’ll spend the night. The descent can be difficult, but the spiritual energy and views along the way keep us motivated. Zuthulpuk is situated at 4,800 meters, and upon arrival, we’ll rest and prepare for the final leg of the Kora. Overnight at guesthouse in Zuthulpuk.
Today, we complete the Kora by walking around Mount Kailash. After finishing the circumambulation, we drive back to Saga. This is a long day, but it marks the culmination of the sacred Kora around Kailash. The sense of accomplishment and spiritual fulfillment will stay with you forever. After the Kora, we begin our return journey, driving back to Saga. Overnight in Saga.
We begin our journey back to Kerung, retracing our route through the Tibetan plateau. This 8-9 hour drive will offer the chance to reflect on the incredible journey you’ve just experienced. Once we reach Kerung, we’ll check into a hotel for a restful overnight stay. Overnight in Kerung.
After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu. The 7-8 hour drive offers spectacular views as we descend from Tibet to the border at Rasuwagadhi, cross back into Nepal, and continue to Kathmandu. Once in Kathmandu, you will have free time to relax or shop for souvenirs. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
