Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant capital, and be greeted by the Explore Holiday Treks team. After completing immigration and customs procedures, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to rest and adjust to the new environment. In the evening, you may enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel or explore some local spots in the heart of Kathmandu, such as the bustling Thamel area.
Today, enjoy a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu's most famous landmarks. Visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites like the sacred Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, and the historic Boudhanath Stupa. In the afternoon, you will return to your hotel to prepare for the upcoming Bhutan tour. The Explore Holiday Treks team will assist with any last-minute documentation and briefing for the trip, ensuring all logistics are in place.
After breakfast, you will catch a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan. The flight offers spectacular views of the Himalayan range, including Mount Everest. Upon arrival at Paro Airport, you will be greeted by your Bhutanese guide and transferred to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital. The drive takes approximately 1.5 hours, offering beautiful views of the Bhutanese countryside. Check in at your hotel in Thimphu, where you will have dinner and rest for the night.
Start the day with a hearty breakfast before embarking on a full day of sightseeing in Thimphu. You will visit the Tashichho Dzong, the majestic fortress that houses government offices and religious institutions. Explore the National Memorial Chorten, built in honor of the third King of Bhutan, and enjoy the panoramic views from Buddha Dordenma, a massive statue that overlooks the valley. The day’s tour will also include visits to local craft markets and traditional schools, offering a deep dive into Bhutanese culture. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, undertake on a scenic drive to Gangtey, located in the Phobjikha Valley. The journey will take around 5 hours, passing through lush forests, winding mountain roads, and charming villages. Gangtey is known for its stunning beauty and the unique Gangtey Monastery. Following breakfast, drive from Gangtey to Bumthang, one of Bhutan’s most sacred regions. The drive takes approximately 4 hours, with scenic views of the Black Mountains and surrounding valleys. Upon arrival in Bumthang, explore the key sites, including the Jakar Dzong, the Bumthang Valley, and the sacred sites of the area. This region is known for its cultural significance, with a number of ancient temples and monasteries. Enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner at your hotel.
After breakfast, depart Bumthang for a long but scenic drive to Punakha. The journey takes around 7 hours, passing through diverse landscapes ranging from temperate forests to subtropical zones. On the way, you will have an opportunity to visit the famous Dochula Pass and enjoy a stunning view of the Himalayan range. Once you arrive in Punakha, check into your hotel and relax. In the evening, enjoy a delightful Bhutanese dinner.
Today, you will drive back to Paro, a journey that takes around 4-5 hours. En route, you will visit the Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved fortresses in Bhutan, and explore Wangdue Phodrang, another picturesque town. Upon arrival in Paro, check in to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps shopping for souvenirs or simply relaxing in the peaceful environment. Dinner will be served at the hotel.
After breakfast, you will head out for a full day of sightseeing in Paro. Visit the famous Paro Taktsang, or Tiger’s Nest Monastery, one of Bhutan’s most iconic landmarks, perched on the edge of a cliff. The hike to the monastery is rewarding with breathtaking views of the valley below. Afterward, visit the Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum of Bhutan to learn more about the country’s rich history and culture. Return to your hotel for dinner and relaxation.
After breakfast, transfer to Paro Airport for your return flight to Kathmandu. The scenic flight offers another chance to enjoy the stunning views of the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, perhaps shopping for final souvenirs or simply unwinding after an exciting Bhutanese adventure.
